Default Reelfoot Report 11/10/15 - CONTEST

I haven’t been on the water since late May and after a quick view of the weather forecast on Monday night I consulted with my fishing partner (my dad) and decided to burn a surplus vacation day and give it a shot. Not only was this the first time on the lake since May it was also the maiden voyage in our “new to us” Sea Ark 1860 Duckhawk. We arrived at the ramp across from Stupjumpers (quite an appropriate name at these lake levels) around 6:00 AM with intentions of motoring over to the Caney Point area but once we got 500-600 yards from the shore in 12-13 FOW we began seeing many fish holding in the 10’ range so we shut it down, pointed the Terrova northeast and started fishing. We were trolling double minnow rigs and began catching fish immediately. The bite was fairly steady from around 6:30 to 8:00’ish but slowed significantly until around 10:00. Now, I don’t normally put much stock in the solunar tables but I did check one the night before that showed the best feeding time to be 9:48-10:55. Maybe it is coincidence but between 10:00 & 11:00 there was definitely a noticeable difference in the bite action and shad activity on top of the water. Earlier in the day the fish were in more of a bite and hold pattern but around 10:00 they decided to start burying the tips of the 14’ Wally Marshall rods in the water. We varied speed from .2 to .5 MPH throughout the day with .4 seeming to generate the steadiest bite. The day definitely exceeded my expectations as we ended up catching 35 and brought 25 of them home with us. The fish all looked very healthy and more than half of our keepers were in the 1.3 to 1.6 lb range and 14+ inches long.

Was thinking about the Foot last week. Buddy of mine always Riggs up Thanksgiving weekend. And starts loading the boat spider rigging. Thinking about going up for 3 or 4 days of camping and fishing right after thanksgiving and give it a try.

X2. We caught more small fish back in the spring than I remember catching in a long time so hopefully the next few years will be good.
