Default KY Lake fishing report for Big Sandy River for November 23rd, 2013

Hi folks. Welcome to Richard Williams Outdoors.

The water levels here on Kentucky Lake are still at 354 and a half, and looks like they are going to stay at that level for a while. The surface temperatures have gone down a little and are now running in the low 50’s.
Most of the white crappie has moved out to their winter places. And are now running up and down the deeper water drops and ledges. A lot of the black crappie are out there too. But you can still catch black crappie around the beds in a little shallower water.
The best depth of water this week has been 18 to 20 feet on the sides of the drops with the baits around 16 to 17 feet deep. And the best baits for this week have been dark colored jigs tipped with crappie nibbles or straight minnows.
I have talked with several people this week that have had some real good numbers for this time of year. However, most of the folks I have talked with are saying one day they will bite good and the next day they can’t get a bite. Or the fish will bite good for a couple hours, then just completely shut down and quit biting for the rest of the day. All this is not unusual for this time of year. This is just the way crappie fishing is in the late fall or early winter. But the one thing that keeps us fishing this time of year, is the quality of the fish we catch. In the spring, you may have to catch 5 or 6 fish to get a keeper. This time of year we might only catch one to two small fish in the whole day. Plus, the chances of catching that big wall hanger crappie are better now than any other time of year.
The rifle portion of this year’s deer season opens this weekend. It’s supposed to get pretty cold at night for the next several days and that will make the deer move around a lot. There will be a lot of folks sitting up in a tree waiting for that big buck to walk out in front of them. Good luck to all out there trying to bag a deer. Just be careful out there folks. A lot of accidents happen in the woods this time of year.

That’s about all the time we have for this week.
    See-ya on the water folks.
    Thanks for listening.
