Thumbs down Watts Bar Crappie Report, if you want to call it one.....

Fishing wasn't good. Went Sat Apr 16-Tues Apr19 and fishing wasn't very good at all. Storms went thru dumping lots of water on the lake and high winds for Saturday, it stunk. No crappie very few bass. Sunday was better, but they were pulling alot of water the whole time we were there. A few crappie, nice size no numbers. Monday better, 15 keepers none under 11". Tuesday 22 keepers, big fish 14.5". All caught on minnows 5' deep in 7-11' of water. Water temps were 58-63. Lake was dingy to murky. 2-4 waves every day except Monday. These are days fishing all day long. Fishing was S L O W. Very disappointing because of the weather, high winds, murky water, low pressure system, low water temps, high water, and rain. UGHHHH!
Sorry Crappiepappy, not good. No crappie in midlake section at all. We pulled out and put in down by the dam and fished lower part of the lake and did better.

The weather hasn't been very kind this spring as far as fishing is concerned! At least you managed a few.

That's OK, Bassky .... at least we know what we're heading into. Thanks for the report !! According to the lake levels link I use, you were there during a 3ft rise/fall in water level .... with the level dropping pretty fast during that Monday/Tuesday, that you had the best luck. By my reckoning .... that would explain the fish being at 5' in the 7-11' range (unstable water level, so they're holding suspended until it stabilizes). I think they want to come in, but are just having to wait out the water level fluctuations. Water temps are still low enough that I'm not scared that they will have come & gone, before I get there.

All things considered .... I'll be tickled with 15 keepers per boat, for the whole trip, if they're in the 11-15" size class ... LOL !!!

when are you coming down pappy, if you'd like to try the chick about 15 miles south , your welcome to come with us , the fish will still be there for about another week trolling before spawning and moving out to deeper water. went today and had 15 in a little over 4 hrs. as long as we dont get another flood they will be in the same place also down near the hwy 58 ramp. the fish today were in 6 to 7 ft. suspended about 3 to 4 ft. color didnt matter as long as it was a darker one

Most of our fish were blacks, I forgot to mention this. All of the better fish came out of Piney River area.

Brother kybusa .... When you launch at Piney Point Resort -- you'll BE in the Piney River Thumbs Up

Also ... notice that this thread was from this past April !! Not that that means there won't be any Slabs in that area, but just that they probably won't be on shallow brush/banks.

I'm considering heading down around the 13th or 14th ... but waiting on a report from a friend/member that's down there now. If he don't post a report, I'd be more than happy to PM you with his results. And, if you go 7-10th ... you can PM me with yours.
