Default Byrd Lake @ Cumberland Mtn State Park

Has anyone ever fished there? The lake is approximately 50 acres, formed in the 1930s when Sgt Alvin York oversaw the building of the park by the CCC. The lake holds channel cats, largemouth bass, and bream, plus it was stocked with trout un December.

Can anyone give me any tips on this lake? We have a cabin rented this coming weekend, hadn't planned on fishing but might change my mind if l hear any positive feedback.

I didn't get to fish at all. Lake was frozen, but ice wasn't thick enough to support me at 210 pounds. But I did find out there are crappie in there, along with lrgmth bass, bream, rainbow trout, and channel cats. Someone told me they caught their limit of trout twice in December.

I'm not surprised. Tried chunking a basketball size rock off the bridge and it wouldn't bust ice. Tried putting all my weight on ice at water's edge, and it started cracking. should have taken an auger but ice fishing is just plain unheard of in Tennessee. Drove to another couple of small manmade lakes nearby and same situation. But we had fun nevertheless, I kept a fire going in the cabin, my wife had fun with her friends and i caught up on some college hoops on TV along with some fishing shows on a local outdoor channel. Not a wasted trip, rapped with the park ranger he just said it's been frozen quite some time and he says fishings is great after ice out for cats, bass, bream, & crappie.
