Default New to fall/winter crappie fishing...Need HELP!

Do any of you guys have tips on techniques and/or bait for catching crappie on middle TN lakes this time of year?

April is easy, but I'm tired of getting skunked and am hoping some of you good folks might have some advice.

    Thanks!

Dont know much about middle Tenn but if it's like Ga. find the bait and the fish wont be far. People here are tightlining minnows in brush and longline trolling jigs on flats @ 15' deep. Better catches are yet to come, but people are getting decent messes right now. Welcome to the boards.

check out some of Russ's vids. he has lots of different techniques at different times of year. i believe there are several fall episodes from lakes in our region. i myself mostly pull cranks during summer and longline jigs and roadrunners all year. i spend most of my winter sauger fishin and dont do much crappie fishin. good luck

    Thanks for the info.

I got laid off last week and now have time to fish AND hunt, whereas I would normally just be bowhunting on weekends this time of year.

I gotta get on some fish for purposes of sanity.

Was checking out those midwest crappie shows and noticed a lot of them are filmed down on Weiss Lake, Henry Neely, and the Coosa River...where I was born, raised, and lived until just a few years ago.

The fishing down there is outstanding, but the deer hunting is better up here (IMO). I try to get down there to fish at least once per month.

Headed over to Percy Priest today.

Tried spider rigging, but the fish were hold up tight to cover. So I just started fishing attractors and what treetops I could find in 7+ feet of water with minnows and floats.

Probably caught around 15 but only 3 keepers.

I'd pull up to an attractor, catch 2-3 real fast and then they'd be done. Maybe the front coming through on Tuesday will help me out.

The lakes I hope to learn are Priest and Old Hickory...and maybe the Cumberland between OH Dam and Cheatham Dam.
