Never fished sauger at Old Hickory before. We fish the TN River for em. Bottom bumping 1 1/4 oz jigs w/stinger tipped with a minnow. We look for humps and mussel shell beds and, of course, current.
Good luck, be careful and stay safe.
anyone been fishing Old Hickory for sauger. I would like to fight the cold tomorrow and catch some. I have never fished for sauger so any tips would help. As a kid we would hook them some times on KY lake while crappie fishing, and I loved to eat them, but have not had any in probable 20 years. I will be fishing alone, no one want to fish in single digits. So I will be fishing above the dam. too much trouble below when your alone. So once again anything would help thanks.

Yes, I fish like a girl. If you tried a little harder, you could too!!
We always take creek minnows when available. and you would be surprised how many fish you catch on stinger hooks. They can be aggrevating but definately increase your amount of hook ups. I would say 3 of every 5 fish we catch are caught on stingers.
I have not heard of anyone fishing OH down by the dam. I hear they do catch some near Locke #6 near Hartsville. I like fishing below Cordull Hull Dam, but as of last week they have not done well yet. I hope to get out this week.
Yall check this site out, lots of sauger info there, saugercentral.freeforums.org - Index page
To All:
I fished yesterday for about two and a half hours and didn't catch a fish. I had two or three small strikes but I'm not certain those were from sauger though. Before duck season I was catching my limit, but now the tides have changed.
