Scott, about the biggest problem I had with braid was tangles. With my cateract eyes I couldnt even come close to get a tangle un-done in GOOD light, much less while at night out on the boat. I put braided line on one of mine just experimenting around and took it back off after the first night out. Good luck if you try it.

if you having problems with break offs, and braided line aint working for you, go to six or eight or even 10 pound for nightstalking. if you using minnows and tightlining it will work just fine for that application.. IMO 4 lb is too light for tightling minnows cause you gonna loose a lot of fish if you aint real careful. plus you dont want to be doing a lot of "playing" with larger fish when you got multiple rods out in a nightstalking setup..(IMO....:D)

I've been using power-pro for several years now and love it.Don't have the tangle or knot slippage like some of the other braids.Takes a while to get used to setting the hook, just need to lift the rod, well worth it,you will feel every tap.

I have used FireLine for years and can't ever remember breaking off a fish. Largest was a 26# Chinook Salmon on 6# FireLine. I do think braids work a little better on level wind / casting type reels than they do on spinning reels. They have a tendency to slip on the spool of spinning reels. Starting with a mono backing before the braid seems to help.

you can also put a couple wraps of electrical tape on the spool before you tie the line to it will help keep it from slipping.

I dont like braid for tightlining minnows. Mono for whatever reason has out done it for me personally about 8-1. I LOVE 4 or 6lb fireline for shooting a dock though. Hardly ever loose a jig and havent noticed much, if any difference in catch rates for dock shooting.

Got braid on every spin reel I own. Use mono on my casting tackle only. Use 15 ultra cast for crappie and never lose a hook or jig. Use 20 and 30 on all my surf tackle and get some realy nice stuff, like 7-9' sharks, 50" drum and all in between with braid. IT WILL CUT YOUR HAND!!!!!. Don't try to use your hand to break off. Use a steady pressure and you will get your hook/jig back.Don't try to pull with the rod, point to the snag and give a steady pull like Treed said. I often just turn op the troll motor one more notch and let it pull free.

I recently bought some new rod and reels and put some stren 8# briad on them and so far have not seen a differance in the bite, I used 4 rods with 4# mono leaders and 4 rods with the 8#braid and both caught fish. And if I hook a big cat or bass I'll not have to worry about breaking off.
