Default the game warden says ................

well just got off the phone with the sc dnr law enforcement division, and i learned i am a poacher of perch , this is straight from the wardens mouth, white perch and crappie fall under the same creel group so you can only have in your possesion one legal limit of 30 and you can have 10 others from the other groups, ie large mouth and striper and so on, i hope this will keep us out of the pokey and keep our walletts fatter:D but this should also get us going to try to change this reg and get the perch removed from the list of game fish ,it can be done local fishermen got it done in nc. there is a process to getting this before the scdnr i will check into it , in nc the carolina catfish club has been working to have a limit put on the large blue cats from norman and badin and they have got it all the way to the public hearing stage so it can be done i am going fishing :D

Good to know, thanks bowlerman. I have not had too good of luck lately with the game warden.

I just tried calling the Ga. GW at home myself. No answer but wanted a clarification too. Seems nothing is in the Ga. F & G laws about white perch but I want to know about the recipocal agreement with SC about it, or is that even a factor. I also posted this on the Ga. board and was surprised not many knew what a white perch was, or at least hadnt seen that species in their lakes. Most not be a common fish down south of us.

If you do get a petition or whatever set up to get the white perch removed from the limit, let us know. You could print out several copies and send them to folks who live locally at lakes and let them put them up in bait shops or whatnot. There is also a site that runs petitions online if you want to check into that.

While we are on the subject of limits. Who thinks there should be a min. length on crappie of 9 or 10 inches. I know other states have a min. length limits and they always catch big fish. I would like to see it if it would improve the quality of fish. I know alot of spring time fishermen that keep everything that bites the hook and there no such thing as throwbacks.

the last couple of years, on our nightstalks we havent been seein many small crappie. most all we been catching have been slabs. according to the article in the sc sportsman mag, they noticed the same thing in their netting surveys on wylie. and he said no small fish indicates that not many fry made it and the white perch may be the reason. they love to eat crappie fry and eggs. and as many perch thats showing up, i can understand how its hard for the little ones to make it. before you know it, snakeheads is gonna be a legal game fish with limits on em to...

I think here in Tennessee the 10 inch minimum is a good thing...it's improved my overall catch size.....but it's hard to throw a 9 3/4 inch fish that's real thick back, but I do....
