shes gone.....

weve been caring for the wifes 83 year old momma here for the past 3-4 years after she come down with alzheimers or dementia or whatever it was she was afflicted with. shes been going down the hill for the past few months till finally she was bedridden then a few days ago she quit eating or drinking. yesterday morning the wife checked on her at 6:30 she was ok. at 7:30 she checked her again and called me into her bedroom, saying she thought something was wrong. i checked her and her face was growing cold. she was gone. her suffering is over with now and shes gone to a much better place, to be with her husband who she kept asking for the last few days before she quit talking. she seemed to know the end was near and went peacefully in her sleep. its been a real challenge for us and unless youve never cared for someone like this its hard to imagine the hardships involved. and those that are caring for a loved one in this situation, i have an appreciation for what you are going through.

My wife lost her mother to cancer in October and she was in a similar situation to yours where she was at home during the final weeks. You know the end is coming, but you are never totally prepared for the day and the finality of it.

It is times like this when our faith in God is the only thing that gives us the strength to go on. Knowing that the Lord has a better place in store and knowing that we are part of a bigger plan kinda brings some sense to all of it.

The thoughts and prayers of my family are with yours.

Our prayers are with you and yours Buddy. She was a lucky lady to have you and your wife care for her like you did in her last days. She is now in a better place.

for the last three years shes been here suffering from this disease. she went through a lot of different stages. on the days when she could sit outside and i was piddling around the yard and id have to keep one eye on her and when shed think i wasnt looking shed try to slip away and go down the road. at times shed think i was her preacher, or her husband and at times a stranger who wasnt supposed to be here. when id be messin around with the boat shed wanna get in it so she could go away. a lot of times when wed eat, shed finish and then demand to know when was we gonna eat. some things would be humorous that youd have to laugh over but at the same time it was sad to see. shes better off now and shell be missed.
