Default another silly but serious question

What's the best oil or grease to fry fillets in? Or does it make any difference?

How about breading? My kids love when I use the vidalia onion ring batter mix on crappie fillets.

    Thanks. Happy fishing.

A lot of folks use peanut oil, but I guess I'm a bit of a tightwad, so I use canola oil instead. It certainly does a great job in a frydaddy or fry pappy, and there are no complaints (and usually no leftovers! ) when I cook up a bunch.

Same here execpt I use corn meal and house autry 1/2 and 1/2. Sometimes I bread them with there hushpuppie mix just like the other mix makes a krispy flakey crust on your fillet.

Have any of you tried adding powdered mustard to your mix? someone told me to try it, but i don't want to mess up any fillets

I have used the Bass Pro Shops Uncle Buck's Spicy Breader - it is pretty tasty - but over all House Autry is hard to beat

I use peanut oil. Just got a bottle of LouAna. This so far cooks real good.

One trick I would do is after cooking and the temp of oil is down, I would use a coffee filter and strain the oil into a container. This way I can reuse the oil many times.
