    Default Baitcast nets advice.

I am a bait net newbie. I have a 4 feet mono net to catch bait. I have been on the internet getting different ways to throw the net. And I say it is not easy. Any advice on what is best nylon or mono. And what size would be ideal. I would like to catch my own bait.

This is the easiest way I have found for how to throw the net, You may have already seen this but it was what I watched and then threw the net like a pro.

Mike,I'd say most folks use a mono net, around 6foot.It may be easier to learn on a 4 or 5 ft though.I'd say throw the biggest you can, because you want to get bait with as few a throws as possible. The 3/4lb ft nets are lighter and easier o throw, like a "betts tyzac".When I was learning,I could throw a 5 just as good as a 3.5 (not fully opening either one) so I just kept working my way up to larger sizes.

Gabowban saw that vid. It seem a little complicated to me. Was looking for something simple. Simple is not working for me. Gonna have to try the vid in youtube. So I will learn with what I have then graduate to a 6 foot. Thanks all for your expertise and sharing. Great board and family we have here.

Fist Time out Thursday with net got one shad. Poor fellow must have swam into the net.lol

For a 4' net you don't need to do all that, I am right handed this is how i do it, place the horn between your thumb and first finger"horn is the ring that slide up and down the net" go down the side of the net to the bottom grab 1 weight and place it between the thumb and first finger, now follow the weights running from your hane to the bottum of the net and grab hold of the closest one to you body you don't need to bunch them once you have this simply turn to your right a little and in a quick smooth motion turn back to your left and give the net a fling release the right hand a split second before the left . Wow thats way harder to describe that actually do. I am 6 ' tall and can do this with a 4 or 5 foot net. a 6 foot net a through differently and a 8 foot net I through similar to the video but I don't put lead in my mouth. I hope this helps like I said it's a lot easier to do then describe. I prefer a mono net and I soak mine in fabric softener for a couple of days when they are new, this helps relax them and makes them open up more fully.

    Good Luck

This one is pretty straight forward and he mentions the KEY that turned me from practically useless to very effective with a net. Make sure your main throwing hand, ( my right hand ) rolls over the other hand before letting the net go. That one thing made all the difference with my throws. my .02
