    Default Clark Hill Report 12/15/21

With the cool temps I waited a bit to get started so I wound up at the boat ramp at 9AM. Wasnt long before I found the same fish in the same locations as the last trip I went on...

It never was fast and furious but it was somewhat steady. Stayed that way for the first 3 hours and died off quite a bit so I called it a day. Fished until 1PM and reeled 'em up. Final tally....57 caught and 21 kept...

I cleaned these and will share with the folks that allow me to deer hunt on their land. They LOVE crappie fillets and I LOVE being able to fill my freezer every year hunting their lands for free. The livewell shot...

Great report. Question: what made you confident the marks on sonar were crappie and not white perch or hybrids. I consider myself really good with my electronics but my guess would not have been crappie if I was looking at that screen on Clark’s Hill. I can pick up crappie when they are in those large pre spawn schools up off the bottom that everyone pulls long lines over. Or a school on brush is even easier. But when I see fish hugging bottom my mind tends to think perch or hybrids. Good work in figuring out it what it actually was.

You never know what the marks are until you get hooks in their faces to see. Ive found that usually when the bait is that deep so are the crappie. During the cold water times of the year the crappie stay at/close to the bottom IMO. I did catch one perch and one small striper today.

Well done. I think I might go crappie fishing the next time I get to go fishing. It's been a while.

Very interesting. I mostly striper and perch fish in the winter so I’m wondering if there are times I’m seeing fish and can’t get them to eat if it may be crappie instead. I pick up an occasional crappie on jigging spoons but nothing consistent.

I catch crappie one foot off the bottom all the time...even in the summer time. When i"m perch fishing I catch a lot of crappie thinking its perch on the bottom. Crappie will flatten out on the bottom some times....

Crappie and perch will congregate together sometimes, and both will get into a frenzy over bait. Bass seem to get in there to get their share. You'll making me want to go fishing, now stop that!
