I have a 5O HP Tohatsu and love it. Before that i had a 20 Tohatsu and it was flawless. Upgraded to a bigger boat and the 20 was the reason i stayed with Tohatsu. According to their website they are the 2nd largest outboard manufacturer in the world.

Thank you all for the feedback, the boat I was going to buy fell through so now it looks like I will have to wait a while before I make an engine purchase. I am wanting a dual purpose hunting and fishing boat. I really like the sea ark DXS 1652 or G3 16Dk.

This is a link to my boat. Mine has some upgrades like 50 HP, plus carpet.
Very negotiable and a ton of boat for the money. I got mine used with 15 hours on it for $9500.
You mentioned hunting and it seem to me the stick steer would be a good layout for hunting too. I can picture my old Black Lab laying on the live well cushion for a better view.

PS. The boat color in the ad appeared real light and bright. Mine is the dark green typical on most John boats.

I have 2years on my Honda 30 HP. By far the best outboard I’ve ever owned. Hands down!! And I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count all the motors I’ve had.
I know they’re a little more when you first get them, but I promise it’s a little extra money you’ll never regret spending. For me it was about $800 between the Honda and the Tohatsu. $400 between the Yammy and the Honda.
I know when I hit that switch I’m going where I want to go.
I do t know what kind of financing specials they have right now, but defiantly check into that if you go that way.
    Good luck in your search!

    Rob

Rob, I agree having owned 2 Yamahas that were bulletproof. I owned a 1984 35 Johnson that was still running strong when I sold it in 2004.
Couple years ago I bought 20 Tohatsu to go on a small skiff I had. I pulled the cover to hook up a minitac and was dumbfounded at the technological advances under the cowl.
I called my buddy who is an engine guru to take a look. I literally wasn't 100& sure where the plugs were.
That motor proved to be flawless in two years until I upgraded to a 50 Tohatsu recently.
Tohatsu is the 2 nd largest our board manufacturer in the world.
My point. No doubt the Honda and Yamaha sit atop the world of premium quality. But you can very good engines from other makes that are surprisingly good. Suzuki and Tohatsu have some really good products that can save you a few bucks too.

That used not to be the case. I had friends that bought off brands in the 70-80s and they were not very dependable. I had a 1978 Mariner 28hp that drove me nuts. Hardest starting engine I ever owned.
