When running the motor at speed , say 20 mph , is the depth finder suppose to read correct depth ?

One of my buddies is a techno geek and he is very detailed in his thought process. His DF will read in 60 FOW at top speeds near 60MPH. I'm lucky to get mine to read at 25 Mph which is my top speed.
He helped me get mine to where it reads in depths of up to 50 feet, but if I get to 70 feet at full speed I lose signal. I have a Lowrance HDS Touchscreen so it's not the DF causing the problem. He has the same unit on his boat.
Setting up the transducer correctly is crucial for top performance.

Depends on how your transducer is mounted on the boat, When you are going the speed where it isnt reading peak back and see if the transducer is still in the water, if it is then you might be having some feedback issues and check your grounding on the system if it is not you may need to relocate it.

^^^^This is my bet on where your issue will be. Either where the transducer is mounted is not staying surrounded by water when your up on plane or its not tilted down enough when on plane. Also, does your boat run trim tabs? Tabs can affect the depth reading if the transducer by causing a slight lift to the rear of the boat making the transducer come out of the water. This is more so a problem in flats boats and some of the aluminum bay boats. Just my .
