Just a thought on keeping your caught bait. Try making a bait basket like the one Richard Gene uses. It’s cheap to make and works like a champ. All it take is a plastic toy basket, some time drilling holes in it and some rope, zip ties and a pool noodle. It really easy to empty your cast net into it, and it’s suspended in the lake so the shad aren’t stressed like they are in a bait tank.
He shows how to make one in a dedicated video on YouTube. Just search Richard Gene Fishing Machine and “How to make a floating live bait bucket”.
I hope this helpsCast netting for minnows???Cast netting for minnows???

When we were young way back when. We did not have cast nets but we would catch minnows with a seine. We would go to a sand bar and dad would have us boys run around along the sand bar in about 2' of water and stir up some mud. Then we would drag that ole seine which was about 20 ft long through the stained water and catch a pile of minnows and small bream which we threw back. We would not catch many at all if the water was not "stirred up" as dad called it...
