I had a Tracker with a 25 Mercury on it that was made by Tohatsu. It was a 2001 2 stroke and it was bulletproof. This one has so much more technology I'm excited to run it. One thing I need to do is change the prop. It came with a 9 pitch and the tech said it maxed out RPMs at 3/4 throttle so I will have to watch that until I can swap it out to a 11.5. It has a safeguard that slows the engine down if you exceed max RPMs.
Can't decide whether to go with aluminum or spring for a SS one.
Are you pitching jigs in the bushes yet?

PS: What I didn't know til I read up on it, Tohatsu is the 2nd largest manufacturer of outboards in the world. They make some of the smaller Evinrudes too.

Oh yeah to the throwing jigs but this cold snap has shut me down. I would spring for the Stainless Steel prop if I were you because I have had many aluminum ones rebuilt or totally ruined.

I am no mechanic but I've been around engines all my life so I usually am somewhat conversant on motor issues. Well this new motor is beyond me. I knew it had fuel injection so that part didn't throw me. However, I have a small hour meter that you wrap a wire around a spark plug wire and it times the hours the motor is running. So I pull the cover off and spent a good 15 minutes looking for a spark plug to no avail. I know where they should be, but it is all covered with wires and tubes running everywhere and I'm not about to start taking things apart to look for one.
I'll just use the hour meter on the DF if I can remember to turn it on and off appropriately.
Came with a spare spark plug, should have come with instructions too.
Gonna run it tomorrow for first time. 1/2 throttle for 5 hours. Geez.

Made my first run with the new motor today. Other than an early scare due to cockpit problems, it ran great. With all the new technology today, the EPA has to stick their nose in as well. The gas cap works like your car cap, turn till it clicks a couple of times. It also has a vent cap on it which you are supposed to close when not running. Well, I forgot to open it and I made it about 500 yards and the engine shut off. Wouldn't restart, what the heck? Then I saw the bulb was flat as a pancake and the hose had uncoupled from the tank. When I plugged the hose back in, the bulb slowly regained it's shape and after opening the valve on the cap, it pumped up, engine fired right up and off I went.
Did you know it can actually get boring running up and down the lake at half throttle for 3 hours? But I got part of the break in done. Also ordered a SS prop with an 11Pitch, this one has 9 and maxes out the RPMs at 3/4 throttle. Still got some more break in but when the new prop gets here hopefully i can get to full throttle (2 minutes every 10 minutes) without over revving.
Best part of story, took 1.6 gallons to fill it up after 3 hours running.

By the way,the water temp was 55 in the Clouds Creek Big Mans Marina area in Murray. I spoke with 4 different guys at the ramp and only one had caught anything, and his catch was a whopping 2 fish.
I didn't fish, all I got was a bit of windburn.

Still got about 5 hours to go on the break in
. Factory prop is a midrange pitch(9) and as light as the boat is, it hits max rpm at 3/4 throttle. So i put a SS prop with 11 pitch on today. Hope it allows me to optimize power. Also added a DF up front. Got a tach coming then I'm ready to quit fiddling and start fishing.
Still got plenty of pollen here too!

Looks like the plan is coming together and there is light at the end of the tunnel !
I think you will have the "Fishing Machine" completely ready for serious action very soon.
