My wife Evelyn and I went night fishing in Dutchman creek last night. Set up near the red icons on the southern point. Had green lights in water about 5 feet down. Used plain minnows, jig heads with minnows, jigs with slab stalker ugly green. We fished about four and a half hours and only caught 5 white perch. Anyone have any pointers to help us achieve better results? Maybe different area farther back in cove? I'm grateful for any suggestions.
We also caught the eye of a friendly Game Warden. He asked for my bill of sale for the boat because he thought it was brand new. When I told him it is over four years old he said it sure is in good shape.
Anyway please critique my set up and point my in a more productive direction. We're going to be at Shaw AFB in a rental cabin two days next week and plan to night stalk some more.

Glad you and the Lady of the house went fishing and sharing time together. Not a pro at Wateree or anywhere but I'll tell you a few things to help you. I would try to locate bait and fish before I'd set up if possible on a flat bottom or a ledge. I wouldn't put the light that low. It only needs to be 4 to 6 inches under the surface. You want the bait to get close to the top and circle under the light. After setting up and bait moves in under the light I would drop to the bottom and reel up a turn or two and after a while if nothing happens then I'd move up a turn or two more. Do this until you find the depth they prefer. Set up a few rods at different depths to find where they are then you can hit the same depth until they move. Remember they will rise up and down as the time goes by. If using jigs you need to let it drop to the bottom and reel very slow to the surface. I mean slow, one turn might take you a minute or two. We use flick tail style jigs and a light weight jig to match. You need to contact cutbait on the site to see what he has to offer. I get mine from him and they work very well. Minnows we put the hook above and sometimes blow the split shot. That varies from one fisherman to the next. If you get it right you'll catch fish and it will take time and patience. It will become second nature when you get things going right. I'm sure someone will tell you more but this is the basic for nightstalking. I hope this will help you some. It would be good if you join in with some others that know how to fish at night and learn from them. We have from time to time a nightstalk here on Wylie and you'd be more than welcome to join in with us and see how we do it. Good luck and hope to see you on the lakes. Welcome to the board!

Bigdawgg is right, I was there today, lot of bait in past the bridge, right above the landing, try setting up around that bait.

If your lakes are warming like the ones around here then I'd suggest you set up over or near the creek channel towards the middle/back of a creek. The fish are moving shallower each and every day now and plenty are being caught in 10' of water or less during the daytime. Personally I always liked setting up in depths of @ 20' of water on a nightstalk and on flats of that depth should be the ticket right now. Just guessing though so take it for what it's worth. Good luck..

We used to fish pre spawn under the bridge at Beaver Creek years ago and really had some great experiences. I would use corks and fish about 4 feet deep and throw a few rods around. The fish would only bite when the water was moving out toward the lake for some reason, never figured that one out. We used coleman lanterns and hung them under the bridge so we could see our corks. Would often keep over 50 in a few hour time. Great memories with my dad from back in the 80's....
