Glad you and the Lady of the house went fishing and sharing time together. Not a pro at Wateree or anywhere but I'll tell you a few things to help you. I would try to locate bait and fish before I'd set up if possible on a flat bottom or a ledge. I wouldn't put the light that low. It only needs to be 4 to 6 inches under the surface. You want the bait to get close to the top and circle under the light. After setting up and bait moves in under the light I would drop to the bottom and reel up a turn or two and after a while if nothing happens then I'd move up a turn or two more. Do this until you find the depth they prefer. Set up a few rods at different depths to find where they are then you can hit the same depth until they move. Remember they will rise up and down as the time goes by. If using jigs you need to let it drop to the bottom and reel very slow to the surface. I mean slow, one turn might take you a minute or two. We use flick tail style jigs and a light weight jig to match. You need to contact cutbait on the site to see what he has to offer. I get mine from him and they work very well. Minnows we put the hook above and sometimes blow the split shot. That varies from one fisherman to the next. If you get it right you'll catch fish and it will take time and patience. It will become second nature when you get things going right. I'm sure someone will tell you more but this is the basic for nightstalking. I hope this will help you some. It would be good if you join in with some others that know how to fish at night and learn from them. We have from time to time a nightstalk here on Wylie and you'd be more than welcome to join in with us and see how we do it. Good luck and hope to see you on the lakes.Welcome to the board!
