    Default Fishing and Working

Another weekend has come and gone. I got out on Santee on Friday to try my luck and to add some fresh brush to the collection of piles I have. As we all know, it's hot out, but the absence of wind makes it ideal to place brush out on the main lake. I caught a decent limit pretty quick using a combination of jigs and minnows over brush. The majority of the fish came from waters around 20 foot deep. With fish suspended around 14 feet.

Nice mess of fish. Setting out the brush has paid off for you in this heat and it is great to see you getting your reward for the work you put into your fishing. Enjoyed your report as always and thanks for posting it.

Another good trip and some work. Thanks for the pictures and the reminder that I need to put some real brush out up here. Glad you got paid for your labor.

Good going Tim! Nice mess of fish! Is that Oak? When putting out brush is it better to have it freshly cut with green leaves? Do you stand it up or tie it to the brake drum? Thanks for the report and pics.

Nice catch and pics INK. Question about the crappie,,do the white and black crappie mingle ? Do you catch both species off the same brush pile, or does one pile have one species? Just curious, the lake I fish only has black crappie. My fish were shadow this week,9-10' feet of water holding close to to the bottom
    HEY,,WATCH THAT YELLOW ROD

It's a water oak. Yes, I find the fresh limbs with leaves draw fish in extremely quick. I have placed brush out in the morning and caught fish off of them that afternoon. Any big bushy tree works well in deep water. No need to stand them up as long as some limbs rise above the bottom. That brush has a block tied to it, but any heavy object will work, including a old brake rotor. Certain hardwoods will sink without the aid of a weight. I use weights in areas that have moving water to keep them where I drop them.

It is not uncommon to catch both species of crappie off of one brush. What you find most of the time is the blacks prefer to suspend on top, or way above the brush. The whites in, or near the bottom of the brush.
