Thumbs up 2016 Spring CrappieFest April 9th at Russell State Park

FYI - The bridge going over Pickens Creek on HYW SC 184/ Ga 368 is closed for rebuilding, this is the bridge after crossing into Ga after crossing over Russell. So this will not be a route we will be able to use in April. Plan other routes to come to the park.

Our Spring CrappieFest will be held on Saturday April 9th, 2016 at Russell State Park, shelter #3 (the same shelter we have used for 7 years). We try to plan these events so we hit the spawn. This year because of the youth tournament we have decided to move the event by one weekend in hopes of having great weather. We still should have some great crappie fishing on Lake Russell and should see some big slabs come in for the weigh in.

This is a event for the entire family to come and spend the day with other Crappie.com members and friends. We will have our tournament to began the day and after weigh in we will have the meal. This is a great event each year and gives everyone a chance to fellowship with our Crappie.com family and friends. Make your plans to attend this years event, you will enjoy the day.

There are no fees charged for any of our events and we only ask for the ones that come to help out with any supplies needed for the meal and other events of the day. If you would like to make a small donation that goes to the cost of renting the shelter and trophies please do so at the event, there will be a "donation box" at the shelter. Any money left over will go toward next years event. We want to thank everyone that has helped in the past events for their support.

If anyone has something they would like to donate for door prizes or anything that may be good for one of our raffle items let myself, gabowman or Fisher-o-Men know so we can add it to the other prizes. We thank you in advance for your help

Again this year we will have fishing tackle and other great idem's that we will raffle off.

We will have a swap meet again this year also, if you have anything you want to sell be sure to bring it with you. You never know what others my be looking to buy and the swap meet has always been interesting. I have bought things I didn't even know I needed

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Fishing Tournament
Our rules are simple, each boat will weigh in their 5 best crappie. We will give out trophies for the weights of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. If there is a tie the biggest crappie for the team will be the tie breaker for the win. We will also have a prize for the biggest crappie and the biggest fish so be sure to keep your big fish for the weigh-in.

This year we are having the Youth Tournament again. What a blast it is to watch the young ones weighing in their catches. There will only be one age group of 15 years old and younger. We will give out trophies to the top three weigh-ins. There will also be some prizes given away for the kids class.
The crappie weighed in by the youth must have been caught and reeled in the child.

    Rules
    1. Live-wells will be checked. Once your live-well has been checked and you have signed in you will be able to trailer your boat to any of the ramps on Russell but you "must" be back for the weigh-in start time. ( if the lake is busy it is your responsibility to allow the time you need to be at weigh-in time)
    2. Each boat is a team, 5 crappie weigh-in.
    3. If anyone is caught trying to cheat they will be disqualified and banned from any of our future events and could be banned from Crappie.com also.
    4. All Ga. and S.C. game laws are to be followed.
    5. No matter what is happening at the lake it is your responsibility to allow time to be at the weigh-in.
    6. Sign-in will be from 6 am til 7 am for the tournament. Fishing times are from 7 am until 12:30. (No fishing before 7 am and no fishing after 12:30 ) Weigh-in will be held at 1:00 at shelter #3. You must be at the weigh-in when your name is called or you will be disqualified.

(sign-in will be at the main park ramp)
When you come into the park take the first road to your left and follow it to the ramp.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This year we are having hamburgers and hotdogs again as it worked out very well for the past few years. I will go buy the hamburger meat and wienies once we have the number of people coming. I am adding a list for the other supplies we will need for the meal. Please let me know what you can bring and I'll add your name beside the item.

You should bring her Engineman. The spring Crappiefest is a blast and I dont know of a soul that hasnt enjoyed that day since we started the Crappiefests. It has also drawn the largest crowds of any of our events too. Fun for all.

Ronnie, put me down and include Allen. I'm sure he'll want to come. I'll bring large trash bags.

BTW guys, everybody that can, start working on prizes for door prizes AND tourney winners. Also keep in mind of the Kid's tourney too. Lastly, raffles help fund the expenses so if anybody can help come up with some real nice prizes we can raffle those off. Just touch base with us and let us know how you want the prizes to be distributed (door prizes, tourney Gifts, or raffled item). Thanks fellas.

I wouldn't miss this for anything! I'll bring along my stepson Matthew once again. I'll send another post detailing what side dish or dessert I'll bring after I check with the "boss"!
