I ate tons of bream (on the bone I may add) growing up. They are good eats. However, I would have to give the nod to crappie as better tasting, especially when filleted. In fact, crappie are my favorite freshwater fish. White perch are pretty good too, as are small stripers/hybrids, and even spotted bass. Not a cat fish fan, although my wife is. Can't speak for any Yankee variety freshwater fishes, but I hear walleye are tasty!

I fillet them, only keep the bigger bream and crackers. Have eat many on the bone but since the wife won't eat any fish with any bones in them I just got use to filleting everything now. Some fine table food

A few good sized Gills, half fillets. this is where you scale them, then fillet them leaving the skin on, apply your favorite fish mix and Yum! The only fish that compares is some member of the perch family, be it white, yellow or walleye.

A one pound Gill will give you a fuss too, crappie generally do not put up much of a fight. Latch into a two pound Gill and you will think you have hooked Jaws for a bit. A few around that size in those deep water haunts. Want to catch some really big Gills? Best place in SC would be the diversion canal at Santee, between daylight and about 11 a.m just drift along tight lining crickets and you just might catch one with some shoulders. Kit
