    Default Brush Pile Question ?

Got out this weekend and set out some Boo Buckets. Didnt have a lot but maybe they will feel at home in em. Has anybody used shrub bushes like around your house for piles ? Lke hollies and boxwoods and such. Gonna take out a few from the yard soon and wandering if it would be worth the effort to sink em? Got lot of oak limbs that have came down since fall. Was thinkin on burning them but may put them in the lake also.

i sunk some big boxwoods last year from my yard and they did well but didnt last long at all for some reason. i looked at them on the down image a few weeks ago and both of them have about two branches left. hollies might do better tho.

You are correct in all your assumptions. Any type tree will draw and hold fish. Canes, Oak and Hickory trees last so much longer in the water before they start breaking down is why I prefer them. Willow makes excellent brush but is extremely soft wood and is only good for one season or possibly two. If your going to take the time and work to place brush out you might as well put lasting piles down. I have used nearly every type tree known to man, I have yet to see one not pull fish to it at some time or another. If you have the bushes and shrubs just lying around, tie a block to them and send them to the bottom. Put a mixture of different species of tree down in the same general area. This way the fish can use what they want. Some times they prefer the tight woven limbs of Xmas trees, other times the open limbs and branches of hardwoods are better. Any type brush is better than no brush at all!

Can't do better than bamboo. I still fish bamboo that went down in 2008.
    I don't fish because I want to, I fish because I HAVE to !

    Moma tried real hard.

Shrubs will work good, we sunk some shrubs on Murray and they have been the most consistent ones this fall and winter, so far.

Made some fish attractors last year and after I got the last one out I ran over them with my DI. They were out for about 30 minutes and already had fish on them. Made them for under $20.00. Check'em out.

Left them disassembled until I got to the lake. Takes about 2-3 minutes to assemble them. They are 10' high and each one has a 80lb bag of crete mix in it. Works great for me and I don't get hung up when fishing them.

    Yes they have!!!

I'm curious how long they will last. It was a softer wood. Regardless, the fish have been loving it.
Hooking up every chance I get!
