April can be fun, right now ain't bad either..... but I'd say if its the later part of april then things could be about over as far as the spawn. But if you move around you should be able to find fish. Shallow and deep.
I live in N.C. now and am a converted bass fisherman to strictly crappie
fishing. I am planing a trip to Wateree for some crappie fishing,so when is it
typically a good time for them there. Wife wants to come down in mid April.
Is this time good a little late for the spring bite. Thanks in advance. We hope to be staying at the Shaw Rec area.

I agree with stumpjumper. If you long line jigs in April you should find plenty of fish.
so from the two replies I take it a good time to come down would be mid March.
It's all about what type or technic (sp) you want to use to catch them. If you throwing a cork to the docks and bank with a minnow or jig tied to it then if the water has warmed up and the fish have spawned then in later part of April you may not find them.
But if you're trolling or tightlining and are able to fish anywhere and depth then April will be ok, I know people that fish shallow in may and catch them, But them main spawn should be over by then.
hope this helps.
