I have been putting put some brush lately and in the mean time while trying to find spots I've found other brush also. This is partly because of my new elite 5 dsi depth finder I got a few months ago. Even though I am able to locate the brush I'm not quite sure if there is fish holding on them. Does any one have a picture of fish holding close to brush with a dsi unit? Might help me interpret what's part of the brush and what's fish.

Ray the 9.40 is depth of the line from surface.

OK I am still confused. The depth is shown as 5.7 on the screen, what is the 9.4? Is the top of the brush 5.7 and the lake bottom 9.4??
Sorry for all the questions. I am planning to upgrade my console DF to a DSI/GPS combo if I survive our income tax returns. I have always been a HB fan, but the DSI Elite 5 combo looks like a sweet unit, so I am trying to understand all the bells and whistles.
    Thanks,
    Ray

The 9.4 is the depth line that you can scroll with the arrows. Say there is brush underneath and you move that line to the top of the brush pile so you know how much line to let out without getting hung up. That line is not the actual bottom depth.

You are right. Ray that line just shows when you bring up the cursor on a still frame. Say you were in 40' depth and there were a tree with fish around it, you could bring up your cursor and put it on the fish then you would know the depth of the fish. In my picture, the only reason the 9.40 is on the screen is because I stopped the screen from moving and the cursor came up. If I had mover the cursor to the brush it would have read the depth at the center point of the vertical/horizontal lines.

I took this pic and been menaing to post it. I am still learning to read this depth finder, as all the ones we have had in the past show the little fish on the screen. Do you all think this is crappie or more of a bait ball? My take is it's alot of bait and you can't help but think there are some fish mixed in. I want to take some more pics in the future, to try to continue to learn to decipfer this thing. What do yall think?
