Default report-private pond- and you thought bream fishing was for beginners

As we all know, the recent rains have made the water high everywhere. Since I needed to go out and fish, a local private pond was my best bet. As expected, the water was high and muddier than usual.

Well it is a pond, the fish are obviously in there right?

I started how bass fishing with a zoom trick worm. First cast... fish on! pulled in a decent 15 inch bass.

Started to fish for bluegills using crickets. After 5 minutes, I finally landed on. At 5-6 inches...too small. I don't keep bluegills under 7 inches in this pond- there are plenty of quality size bluegills.
5 minutes later, still no bream- tried several locations along the shore....no bream nibbles. However, I did landed 2 more bass, one being another decent 14-15 incher.

Took out a small creek boat and paddled around searching for bream. I managed to find some in heavy wood cover. Bream still fishing wasn't too hot. I ended up with 3 good size bream,- 2 bluegills- 8 inches each, one flier- 9 inches.

Now the bass, they were another story.......

I caught more bass than bream- including all the throwback bream. Also, the bream was rather un-aggressive today- no gut hooks. They simply slurped the cricket- with some good enough stealing the cricket. Usually when I don't pay attention adn that bobber stays down, it gut-hooked.

At one point, I dropped my bright green cork into the water and POP, bass hits the cork. I eventually lost count of the bass I caught on crickets- at least a dozen.

    catches of the day/keepers-
    2 8 inch bluegills
    1 9 inch flier/stump-knocker

    all bass-released
I like fishing for big bass(5 pound plus) and do catch and release for all bass.

Even while fishing in a pond a bream can make you look like a rookie fisherman.
Pond bass are just "hungry stupid" and will bite anything that gets near em but they are a load of fun to catch. When I was young I fished a farm pond that had some monster bass. Never had to look hard for them just had to start bream fishing and you would catch the bass
Congrats on the nice bream caught and thanks for posting the report and pics.

Good report bluefish. Had you been fishing for anything else those brim wouldnta left you alone. Atleast the bass helped to make the day.Thumbs Up Those brim you kept are some nice ones.

Catfish are just as bad as bass when it comes to bream fishing. They love bream baits and bream lures plus bass lures too. To a bream, fighting a 10lb cat over a little red wiggler isn't worth getting eaten.
Oh I could wrestle a monster fish

Next time if I do fish after some heavy rainfall I am just going to paddle around and fish for bass for fun.

For some reason, unless I am fishing in basszilla territory (location where I know 5 pounders exist), I prefer catching big bluegills. The bass in this pond have only been around for a few years and average about 1-2 pounds.

Big bluegills taste better than bass and I still enjoy watching the bobber go down.
