Heading down Friday morning to try Santee for 3 days. Will be fishing out of Harry's fish camp going mainly after blues. Hope the weather and wind holds out with the cold fronts coming through. Did you catch that flathead on live bait?
I see there's been some Santee chatter on the board recently. Just wanted to show you the flathead we caught in the Diversion canal in front of Blacks two Saturdays ago. It weighed 49lbs 8oz on Blacks scales about 10 hours after it was caught. My son had already put a 30lbr in the boat. This beast was caught by my son's friend who goes fishing with us about once per year. I think I've hooked him for life.

Bet that boy will wanna go agiin this year! Nice cat.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
PaulC,
My expierience's with the cat-fishing at Santee have been: Live brim for flat-heads and cutbait "blue back herring" for huge Blues! Good luck. Have not fished Santee since Myrtle Beach Air Force Base closed back in 1992 I sure miss the great cat fishing though.

Which Santee lake do you think is better for big blue and flathead thugs? Also which one is the shallow one, was it Moutrie? Moutrie I guess flows into Marion? Sorry for these stupid questions I've gone couple of times but don't usually pay attention much cause I'm more worried about fishing in the canal. Thinking this Memorial though we're planning on venturing out some. Normally we do like everyone else does is drive to the start of the canal then float back to the bridge which I think is Hwy. 45? Then drive back up over and over. I'm assuming we were starting at Moultrie then drifting to the bridge? Thanks ahead.

When we fish for "Blues," we fish the diversion canal and we only use stink bait. We use a piece of styrofoam on the hook dredged in stinkbait. Pretty much always been successful if the are pulling water so the scent drifts good. Every 10 or 15 minutes we "freshen" up the bait and throw it right back out in the same spot. Saves tons of $$ on live bait.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.
just got back from canal landings today, fished upper lake thurs, fri.then lower lake saterday .caught 24 cats on cut bait.not pulling any water yet .
