nice catch butch you are not a fair weather fisherman after all JUST POKING AT AT YOU. heard of some great reports coming from russell lately. let hartwell bite me again fished gizzards on the boards had 3 lookers but no takers marked a lot of fish on the fish finder you could watch them streak out of the trees get to the bait on the down rods turn and go back down. it was wet all day and windy to fished from 10 am till dark .talked to 2 older gents that have been fishing the same brush sens the 60s they had 60 crappie they for the most part went 21/2 pounds they let go all 11/2 pounders they had the best box of crappie i ever seen they said they probably caught 200 fish yesterday all on black and chartreuse jigs. they said they just tossed the jig to the brush and let it sink .

William, it took me until 9AM to get on the fish and start catching 'em and it seemed the bite was tapering off when I quit at noon.

Jimmy, I bet them 2 old men have kept their fishing place stocked with brush ever since they began it too. Nothing wrong with that and it seems it's paying off big time for them. Allen (my son) striper fished solo yesterday morning on Russell. He landed a 17lb and a 12 lb striper. He lost what looked to him like a 15lb striper trying to lip him on the side of the boat and had another striper that looked like another 15lber about 10 yards from the boat come unbuttoned. He said he also caught about a 4# green carp too. He doesnt carry a camera along...just his cell pohone (without internet) so he cant transfer the pics.:o He relased what he caught. He was pretty excited about his trip since the stripers havent been doing much for him lately.:p

Jimmy, it wasnt raining when I left the house.:D If it was raining when I went outside to hook up I'da waited for betrter weather but I have been wanting to hear something about Lake Russell for over a week now so I just HAD to go and see. I just happen to keep a rainsuit in the boat just in case.:p It's only one of them cheap $30 suits but it done the job yesterday.

Just knowing that alot of boats might be on the water on weekends I figured I'd spend a weekend day to check stuff out on Lake Russell and spend the weekdays for being a little more serious about catching. As it turns out it wasnt a wasted day for some scouting...or catching.:D I dont know how much rain we got last night cause the wife told me it was pouring at times, but unless the trash washes in to make longlining difficult then plenty of fish are fixing to get caught by ALOT of fishermen on Lake Russell. This rain should finish staining up all the creeks making for some excellent fishing and the fish are on the move up the creeks headed for shallow water. And the best news is the big ones havent spawned yet either.
