Yea, I watched the video. It's always a bad sight seeing dead fish laying around everywhere like that. Wonder if it'll effect the fishing next year?!? From the way the report read, it happens every year it's just close enough to land this year for the sport fishermen to see it. You'd think something could be done.:o
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
It was in the paper here too. It said they were culling 35lb fish for the big ones. Those are the ones we need to reproduce
I read the article, but am still unclear. Are commercial fishermen killing these fish as a by-product of more desirable fish? Is their method of catching them what kills them or are they killed purposely killed?
it is a waste. they can only keep stripers over 50 in. the rest they gotta throw back. dead or alive. they are fishing for the stripers but only the 50 in. or better.
They are killed because a trawl fishery is still legal when the limit remains at 50 fish. This does happen every year and yes usually happens further out where no one can see it. No one wants these fish to be wasted, but there is a lot of resistance to a by-catch fishery for these fish. In other words, the culled fish should be kept as well instead of thrown back or they should close the trawl fishery. It's really redundant to have a trawl fishery with a 50 fish limit. Another black eye for the commercial fisherman. Hope you fellas inshore dont like saltwater seafood, because there is a huge movement afoot to kill commercial fishing for good. That means, crappie only for you guys. If you want a shrimp dinner at the restaurant better be prepared to drive to the beach and throw a cast net. Thanks NOAA for all you for us:rolleyes:
Commercial fishermen help feed the world.
