Had a volkswagen with the fenders cut off and big tires with low pressure to play in the dunes . This was in 1974 in northern Florida(USAF stationed at Eglin AFB). Bought it with a buddy for $100. It was painted primer gray and had a hot pink headliner like troll hair. That little car could do some climbing in the sand.

Slab apparently I'm was reading out of order, that's the type of headliner backing I'm used to recovering. In the curves is where being able to reposition helps.

There was no repositioning! If it touched the headliner, it grabbed. You'd pull the headliner apart if you tried pulling it off. I think I waiting to long! I shoulda just went for it and not waited for the glue to tack up. Stupid instructions. Or maybe I'm just slow! doh

You have to work them wet, I learned while learning was easy, today, stuff doesn't come so fast to me either. It's also hard to do a 100% job for me at 62. A friend owns a leather shop where is recovers Aircraft seats, restores old Barber Chairs and the like on the side. He may take several days to recover say a motorcycle seat gluing a small area at a time, letting the glue fully set before continuing. He really lays it down smooth that way.
Thanks Slab thanked you for this post
