    Default Garmin images

Here are a few screen shots from a card I pulled the other day to back up waypoints. I am terrible about remembering to take any.

These are down imaging shots, maybe the worst of the big sonar companies but very functional.

Here are a few side image shots, most are pallet style stake beds typical on Kentucky/Barkley. Not the greatest images but works for me running everything in auto except range.

    Try 855 hz
    Turn TVG off
    Use zoom in side scan

Nice pics pab1981. Mine are similar to your dv ones. Sometimes mine are a bit less sharp than I would like but I am at TM speeds also (< 1 mph). I am using 93sv chirp GT52HW. I stay at 455kh always it seems. Tried 800 but don't stay there. Some say it is better, but I must need to tweak something to get there, and so far I've not hit on it. Will keep trying. Good units, found a lot of cover, etc. Really like the sv for searching bp's Thanks for the pics

I have played with the 800 some on down and side. At times I thought I liked it better on side but never liked it at all on down.

What does turning off TVG do?

I have tried to use zoom, no luck I guess I need to read the manual again I always make a mess with it.

One of my favorite things about these units is how well they function without manipulating them. I get that you can get more out of them and am open to getting better with them if it relatively stress free but I am pretty happy as is other than mapping on Barkley. I am not going to guess how many hundred brushpile/stakebeds/trees I have found with them and have had a lot of success catching fish with them as is.

TVG is Time Varied (or Variable) Gain. It's under MENU then SONAR SETUP then ADVANCED. Mine is at Medium. Guess it came that way. I am not sure what it does or doesn't do. Was under the impression it was only effective for really deep water, but IDK. Perhaps Machine will help us out on that.

I agree on finding so much cover that I never knew was there. Plus it is a very easy unit to work. I am more than satisfied. I found an old bp on a local lake last year that I fished when I was a teen. Not much left after another almost 60 yrs but two hollowed logs, but I found it. Nothing home tho.

Well, I will try it as it is easy enough to do. Still ask tho is this something best used in less than 50' sv range, or in less than 50' of water, both or etc??? If it makes the image cleaner then I may try 800 again because I didn't get nearly as good information back on it as I did 455. Or, I need to adjust something else to get it. I'm sure I won't grasp the technical reasoning behind TVG, but that matters not.
