Default Side imaging at slow speed

I was planning on purchasing a Humminbird Helix 7 SI and use it with the trolling motor mount while spider rigging. Was told that the SI wouldn't work at slow speeds. All comments welcome. Thanks

To get the best view hummingbird recommends between 2-6mph, and traveling in a strait line. Something to keep in mind however is most people use them with the transducer mounted on the transom do to the fact the the motion of the motor side to side will distort the picture. With side imaging you want to cruise in a strait line. I saw on one post where someone did put the si on there trolling motor and would turn it to the side to see what was in front of the boat much like a 360. I can't say if or how well it works but maybe someone on here can.

I use mine at least half the time at very slow speeds and it works great. I have even left it on when sitting still and see fish swim by the beam. They usually show up as a streak or stretched out line, good enough for me to make a cast and catch the fish.

It works at slow speed just like the guys pics prove ... Changing the chart speed to the lowest setting/speed is a must

agree...there is a direct correlation between ping speed (chart) and boat speed. You get them "tuned" just right and your in for some excellent returns.

BUT..a 7" screen will be tough to see much detail..we all know that $ will dictate what you can buy, but bigger IS better in SI

Thanks for the responses. Now that I know it can work I may upgrade to the Helix 9.
