    I'll be the first one to appear stupid on this one since I don't have a DI FF...LOL I would think if you mounted the transducer backwards you would see the same basic image because it doesn't give you a left or right perspective of the object like side imaging. I'm not sure of the angle of the beam but reversing that angle would reverse the reflective properties of the object. Other than that it would cause some possible issues with the water flow across the face of the transducer.

    Other than being more prone to breakage, turbulence, mounting issues, the image itself should be like ezfishn says....the same as if mounted traditionally. The only exception I could see would be if the rx and tx are located far enough apart, and the DI slice is so narrow, that the return echo misses the rx portion of the transducer.

    They should look exactly the same. The same thing happens on 2d & SI, if the boat is moving backwards as opposed to moving forwards, so DI shouldn't be any different ... with the boat moving forward & the tdx mounted in reverse. The pings of a DI don't register left/right, and just picks up the image from the whole angle of coverage as it passes over it. Wouldn't be any different than turning the TM to reverse the motion of the boat, than having a TM that has a reverse blade spin ... both images would translate the same on the screen.

    I think you can, but the images would be swapped to other side of screen.....in normal position going straight an.image is picked up sent to unit and displayed on screen goin left from right.
    If reversed or backwards, going through water and image is picmed up and displayed on opposite side of display on its screen movement

    As most have mentioned ... It doesn't matter if a DI xducer is facing forward or backward ...

    Simply put ... Sonar does not discern direction ... Targets are either "in the beam" or "not in the beam" ...

    Regardless of which direction the target enters the DI beam ...the unit will still plot that target at "X" distance away from the xducer = or depth from the top of the DI image ...as the DI image is scrolling from right to left ...
