    Default 999 & 859 Waypoint Management - I Need Help

The 999 has been an invaluable tool but I am not. I just tried to manage my waypoints from last week and realized it has been a long time since I managed my waypoints. I have read hundreds of pages of manual but I have slept since then... i can move stored points, crate and save in different folders but figuring out what a particular saved point was is the problem. I need to capture more information when marking the waypoint.
I was looking for advice on starting a short step by step routine that would keep me in front of managing waypoints instead of being behind. Any help from you organized guys would be much appreciated and be saved so I can implement!
    A few questions are...

How do you save ALL views at once?
I have shared waypoint enabled on both and they are linked but unless both are on I lose the shared point. How do i keep it on both units?

I don't network so I'll let the guys with more experience in this answer the 1st part about waypoint management with Ethernet ...
    -------
    -------
I can answer the last question ...

Waypoints can only be shared over Ethernet with both units powered on ...and "Waypoint Sharing" turned on under the network tab in the Main Menu System ...

Waypoints only physically "reside" in the unit memory of the unit that the waypoint was created on ...

Ethernet allows one unit to "see" the waypoints in the other unit's waypoint library ...and then display the other unit's waypoints in a different color on the Chart View ...
    -------
    -------

I'm not sure what your question about saving "all views at once" means ... Can you elaborate ...??

If you use HumminbirdPC, you can copy your waypoints into a spreadsheet like Microsoft Excel and organize them and make notes. While in HBPC, I use prefixes to denote the lake and type of waypoint as well as the various waypoint symbols to denote routes, fish habitat, etc. I have a HBPC backup file that organizes each lake by group and then create a separate local file for a specific trip that only has the data for whatever lake(s) I'm fishing.

Forgot to add...some create separate waypoints for bow and console and maintain separate files for each. I do most of my searching from console so majority of my waypoints are created from console and can share them across the network.

Thank you rnvinc and ezfishn for the responses ;none of my buddies have si or 2 units so my lingo is limited and my formingof questions can be a challenge. You guys are my peer group...
Ethernet-Networking; This is my search routine : I generallyscan with the 999 on the console mark a waypoint (blue), drop the trollingmotor , turn on the 859(bow) and wait for the mark to appear(green) up there. Then I scroll to that point on the 859 and mark it upfront. I don't like fishing with both units on (to much noise) so I turn offthe 999 get on the trolling motor, find and fish that waypoint. I do itlike that ensure something is saved on the 859. Is that a good routine?

As far as "saving all views at once" I thought taking a snapshotwould save all data (views) being recorded at that time. IE Everytime you hit the view button the unit scrolls thru all views selected to bevisible in the menu. Such as birdseye view , si , di , splitscreens , navigation and so on... Does a snapshot store ALL this data tobe analyzed later or is there some other way to do it?
I ask because i don't take the time to edit waypoints as I make them. Maybe Ishould...

I have downloaded waypoints and routes to hbpc and have created specificfolders in the past but I don't do it after every trip. Thus lookingat old waypoints on the unit at home, or hbpc for thatmatter, I cant discern exactly what I am looking at; for instance abrushpile in 18 feet of water. When i am sitting on the mark shouldI take a snapshot of the view (screen) that is most descriptive so I knowwhat I am looking at later ???

"Saving all views at once" would be referring to HB recordings ...wherein during "playback" of that recording, you have the same access to all the views and settings to manipulate what the recording playback looks like ...

The only exception to this is the "Imaging Frequency" setting ... which will only record the 455kHz imaging frequency or the 800kHz imaging frequency setting (whichever you have the "Imaging Frequency" set to during the recording) ...
    -----
    -----

Snapshots are simply a screen capture of everything showing on the display when you press the "Mark" button (with "Screenshots" enabled under the Accessories tab in the Main Menu System) ...

There is no capability to manipulate or change the snapshot after capture ... The snapshot can be viewed on the unit in the "Snapshot and Recording" view ... Or transferred to your PC for viewing with most any picture viewing software ...
    -----
    -----

I think your present scenario of marking a waypoint at the console... viewing that waypoint on the bow unit as a green waypoint ... and then marking another waypoint with the bow unit is a good system for what you're using the units for ...

I would recommend "Exporting" your Nav data and running them thru HBPC occasionally is a good practice ... mainly to have a fairly "up-to-date" backup of your waypoints (in case either unit crashed or needs to be sent to HB) ...

You can view your waypoints in Google Earth right from the HBPC program to help identify where you were when you created that waypoint ...

Unfortunately ...editing waypoint data on the core units is not user friendly (tho it can be done thru the Waypoint Management menu under the Nav tab in the Main Menu System) ...

Creating a snapshot when you create a waypoint could be one way to help you keep up with what waypoint is marked where ... like you mentioned ...

I just keep notes in my phone for later use ... if I need to remember certain things about a waypoint ...

Wow ! You covered everything... I appreciate it greatly...
I have to implement recording in my routine and study the recordings I have.
I too feel editing on the unit is to time consuming while fishing.
I have used HBPC in conjunction with Google Earth before and it was awesome but about the time I thought I was good at it we got a tricky pc virus and I haven't downloaded much since we got it reconfigured (over a year ago).
I don't always snapshot the most descriptive screenview for reviewing so I have to keep that in mind also.
I have a tiny flip phone but I guess could get a picture of the best view of the waypoint for back up.
Thank you for putting up with my ignorance and steering me in the right direction. Terry

    Thanks again to ezfishn also...

+1 You can also link a photo and/or the snapshot to the waypoint stored in Google Earth or you can also do that in MS Excel. I think if you use Humviewer, it allows you to mark a waypoint and also make a snapshot. I have a spare power cord and ac/dc adapter that I can use to power up the FF and play back recordings or view snapshots at home off the boat so I seldom use Humviewer.

I did humviewer and a few other sites for a while but don't want to spend that much time on it anymore. I, too, made a adapter for home viewing shortly after buying the 999. HBPC, google earth and plugging in the units at home is plenty for me.
I dont know what I did Sunday but when I plugged in the 859 yesterday to work thru the unidentified waypoints it wouldn't let me edit any of them. The popup edit box showed up as light purple and when I toggled over to edit the waypoint number it disappeared. Is that what it does when the waypoint was marked on the other unit?

    This seems odd ...

Did you power the unit on the boat ...or with your adapter in the house ...??
