Nope...surely NOT an average temp. Air temp?

I would think that the initial temperature measurement is used, but could be an average of the first several; however since signal from transducer will be continuous this would have to be the first several readings the unit's processor makes. Clear as muddy water, huh?

I was guessing that it took the initial reading from the TD, then just plotted the new temps from the TD as they come from the TD. Not sure on time frame for sampling from TD. i.e. you get on the water and it gets 74 degrees first reading from the TD, then it just plots the temp as it gets new readings. So according to the image temp has risen almost 5 degrees from where you started according to the pic? Just a guess!!!!

Patiently waiting on the real answer!

The screenshot in the OP was taken from the HB website...
(See next post for my 1197 screenshots with explaination)

    Default Sonar Quiz #14

So I took some screenshots from my 1197 in my garage...(the temp sensor works out of water in normal mode- correct depth does not)...

In this 1st screenshot below...you can see the temp graph and it's number assignments (71°-91°)...immediately after I turned on the unit...just as the screen started to scroll...
notice the temp in the bottom readout box is the ambient temperature of my garage (81.2°)...and the "upper" and "lower" temperatures assigned to the temp graph are 10° above and below the ambient temperature sensed by the temp probe at startup...

In this 2nd screenshot below...while the screen was scrolling, I had placed my thumb on the temp probe to get the temp probe to sense my body temperature....
notice the trend line in the temp graph has steadily risen as the screen scrolled to the left...the 86.3° in the readout box at the bottom is the temperature that the probe sensed my thumb temperature

also notice the numbers assigned to the temp graph at startup (71°- 91°)...did not change as the temperature was rising with my thumb on the temp probe

In this 3rd screenshot below...I had powered the unit off...and powered the unit back up (with my thumb still on the temp probe)...
notice the temperature in the readout box still at 86.3° (with my thumb still on the temp probe)..but now the "upper" and "lower" numbers assigned to the temp graph are 10° above and below the new temperature (86.3°)...sensed by the probe as soon as I powered on the unit...

So the numbers assigned to the temperature graph are 10° above and below the temperature sensed by the temp probe on startup...(or maybe an average of the 1st few initial temp readings ...as cache stated)...

These assigned numbers on the temp graph at startup will stay active...until the unit is powered off and powered back on...

Inquisitive minds want to know, how often does HB sample or collect the temperature?

I'm sure it's "plotting" the new temperature every time the unit "paints" a new vertical row of pixels...but the sample rate I'll have to let Greg answer...

The temp probe in the xducer has it's own dedicated wire channel...so it may not be tied to the actual ping rate of the sonar signal...
