Default Who has a HB 798ci HD SI?

I am considering purchasing a new HB 798ci HD SI. Some of the outlets are marking these units down below $700 since HB is discontinuing the 700 series. My concern is this: is the screen to small on the aforementioned unit to see much detail in the side imaging mode? Would I be better of with just a down imaging unit? I am currently using an old 727 unit that is black and white. I would really appreciate hearing from some 798 users.

Call Brian at BBG marine. See if he has any 898 left. Might get much bigger screen for not much more dollars. Promise you would like it better with larger screen.

I had a 798HD for awhile, nice unit with a bright display. I always got good SI images with the unit just the screen a little small. Bigger is always better for SI but if the 798 fits your budget I would prefer this unit over the 500 or 600 series. I just replaced mine with a closeout 898HD but I seen today the 899 has a MSRP of 999.99, having a little regret knowing I could have gotten the faster processor and internal GPS for very little more.

I have had one for about 3yrs. now (not HD). You can see a lot with it and there is a zoom and also some other tricks that you can use. Everyone will tell you to get the largest that you can afford. Younger eyes are better...mine are 62 yrs old.

If they add just one more screen view of both sides in DI format, then my old eyes (57) would see them more clearly, in wider range, and in more readable and pleasant position. Instead we have to buy bigger screens for kayaks with gigantic batteries, carry them on our shoulders and use just one day .

Iv heard they are discontinuing them because of trolling motor interference. I don't know if this is true but there is a lot of forum buzz about them not being magnetically shielded or something.....................

I have a 798 and an 898. 798 has a brighter and sharper picture, and I prefer the way It displays the information on the screen. with the discounts now, I think it would be a great buy.
