Brettw - No defense of HB but I have a couple dedicated DI units and I get good performance out of them. They are not picture perfect like the ones on the boxes of either brand but I think they are just fine. It takes time on the water with any brand you choose to go with to get the most out of the units. Don't get caught up in the brand x brand y hype. Just choose what works best for your application and be happy with it. Regardless as soon as you get what you think is best something new will come out.

If you can turn on the simulator and get the view shown on the box it's not false advertising. Even if you can't get it with the simulator I haven't seen anywhere on the box of any sonar unit that claims you will get the same results shown in the picture.

"Misleading" is a different story, but as far as marketing goes those screenshots on the box are minor league. How about the implication that spraying some AXE under your arms will cause hordes of scantily clad swimsuit models to chase you with lascivious intent, or poppin a woody pill with give you unlimited confidence?

It would be wonderful if what you see is what you get, but not in this world, at least not from any large "successful" business.
You just gonna sit there an argue, or fish?

many products do what they say they WILL do, my m+p 9mm comes to mind, they don't put an M16 pic on the box, or show s person hitting a target from 250 hds awAy

a ff with purported di capabilities should indeed have reliable and relatively useful di performance, similar to the ads or box photos, they often do not

So if the manufacturer of your 9mm claims 1" groups at 50 yards, anyone who buys one can expect the same results? Even an expert marksman would probably have a small learning curve to get the best results from the weapon. I think folks have posted some great images on this thread. If you want quality images, you will have to spend some time or your equipment.

Just for comparison ... here's the ad version of what "images" a E5DSI can produce, straight off the Lowrance website :

Here's the best image I've bothered to produce (& I'm still a virtual rookie with the unit) :

    Name: Imported Photos 00006.jpg
Views: 291
Size: 146.2 KB

And so ... since the ad image is likely straight off the simulator program, here's a simulator image screen shot for a better comparison :

    Name: Imported Photos 00004.jpg
Views: 310
Size: 110.0 KB

Personally, I don't think Lowrance put forth the "best" advertising image that the unit is capable of, either in their webpage ad image or on their box images.

    gents
my 998c hdsi has interpolated di, but they sell it as bring as good as the lowrance hds down images, there is absolutely NO comparison in the 2, far as DI is concerned.
To compete Hbird has to falsely advertise a great DI on these units that do not have dedicated DI crystals,
