Default opinions on dedicated DI units

    Gents,
I think most agree that lowrance has the down image edge on units that have dedicated di vs humminbirds use of combining side scan to create a down scan view.
But who has the best purely dedicated down scan? I refer to units that do not have side image capabilities. ie lowrance elite 5 or 7 vs humminbird
    858 ci or 788, 597 hd ci?

Ford v/s Chevy again. I have a bird DI unit and it works nicely for me. If Low would have had the new 7 inch di units when I was looking I would have given them a really good look.

I had an Elite 5 and was not impressed, I have seen some very good images from the Elite 7 though.

There are many reasons in my opinion, but to make it simple. Do a search, read all the issues everyone besides a select few are having with the HB's.. Then see how many problems you find about the Lowrance. I had HB on my boats for years, from low to mid level graphs. Got tired of not getting what I wanted out of them, switched to Lowrance and wish I'd had done many dollars ago.

you get dual beam 2d as well as DI with the HB DI units.

If I were to get a dedicated DI unit I would seriously consider the 858 and use the DI wide transducer. That way you would still have the 83/200 2D.

If anyone has one set up like this I would like to hear some feedback about how you like it.

    I have the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T on my 1197c SI Combo...(but that's another story)...

Like Bob said...I would also agree...and suggest one use the DI xducer that has the 83/200kHz Dual Beam with a 858 DI or larger..

I still don't understand why HB put such "wimpy" small 2d cone angles in the XNT 9 DI T ...
