Dang that's nice. Sure hope it never tips over once full of wine, that'd be messy to say the least! Use plenty screws to screw it to the wall would be my thoughts on that. Very nice, I woulda used 1x2's with a lot less cuttin.

Default Wire Wine Rack Log Wall Mounting Backing

The wire wine racks pictured earlier really need to be mounted somewhere else. The best looking idea I could come up with was moving both racks to a Log Wall. Since the logs are not even some even, level, attractive transition is sorely needed. This is what I came up with.

While at Home Depot buying the materials for the Wood Wine Rack I picked up this 2ft x 4ft 3/4in thick Birch plywood. Since mounting to the Logs permanently finishing is needed. So I just put a bit in the router first and went around the edges well. After, sanding is needed to clean up the edges. Once sanded I ran sandpaper over the whole surface cleaning it up before the first run of Poly. I have a dye in the poly to tint the Birch the color of the yellow pine walls in the house. The pine walls here were finished with old school Sparvar. Sparvar yellow with age, the house was built in '85 so the walls are yellower now than when built. The stain in the Poly matches pretty good. Its been too cool for the Poly to cure fast but when cured I will sand it again with a sanding block this time just to dull then recoat. More later on both racks.

Thanks for the advice, I will have numerous screws mounting this to the solid wood wall as a "Build In" permanently. The reason I did not use 1x2's is the vertical weight of the wine is much more than one would think. 19 full bottles worth of continuous weight in a rack not full of bottles would allow over time the risers to spread. I didn't want to have a bunch of cross braces in the front for aesthetics.

Its going here behind this door.

I have a 1/4in Birch Luan to skin the outside with but plan on bringing this out to the spray painting area to spray a darker stain with a HVLP gun. Doing this first will eliminate any "Holidays" in my finish work. After I will complete the assembly before mounting.

At The Home Depot when you buy 30 sticks of the 1x3 appearance boards they drop the price to $2.16 a stick, almost as low as 1x2's. A game I play is I will buy over 30 to get the discount then return the ones that are bad getting the cheaper price and not having to stand in the store and wade thru culls.

    Default Adding Some Finish............

Bare wood never looks good right? I need this rack to look better than Gomer Built. Not wanting to make a piece of furniture grade Wine storage (the cost & time out of sight) I just shot this stain / poly one shot Minwax finish on from enough angles to tone and holidays down. The front braces still must be added but I need to secure to the wall first. Also I had to re-shoot the braces with longer 16ga nails. Seems the guy on YouTube's instructions were lacking there too. Parts started pulling away quickly as it was moved around. The 18ga nails were just too skinny to grab and hold the cheap wood.
