Default Best material for weed guard on round head jigs

Just got in to pouring my own jigs. Was wanting to mod my mold to make weedless jigs. I've seen seceral things used from small peices of cable like
bass pro makes (don't like these and after awhile it comes unwound, to hair brush brustles (don't much like these as they melt when you pour and try to powder coat. Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Do-it molds makes a wire weed guard "do-it wacky wires"they sell them.Barlow's,Jannsnetcraft, lureparts on line sells them will fit most molds without mod or very little modification might have to hit once with rubber mallet. We make our own for our molds out of stainless steel wire .026 or the smallest you can get for crappie.Hope this helps. We do not really like a weed guard because when a crappie strikes a lot of the time they swim up with the bait causing missed strike's.With a weed guard.Or that's what we blame it on.LOL

Thanks for the advice. I like the weed guard simply because I fish Truman Lake with trees everywhere and it does seem to help. I appreciate your time.

I have used several different heads with guards of a few different styles. The v nylon work well, most wire versions aren't to my taste as they sometimes get bent out of shape. I like the toothbrush bristle style, and trim them down some parallel to the shank of the hook. If I was missing any fish, it was the small ones. The heads with the underspin and a guard are the hot ticket. Check out TimmyTom's work with non lead and you'll see what I'm saying.
