    Default New Lead Pot

Thinking about picking up a new lead pot. Any recommendations? Looking at the Lee Precision Production Pot IV at $55 shipped.

It's a good pot but they do leak/drip even when using really good lead. If you're pouring for sale look at the LEE 20 lb. pot or the RCBS (expensive) but worth it.

It use to be called a 10-2 then replaced with a 10-4. It holds 10 lbs of lead and either had 2 or 4 inches of clearance between the spout and base. I have a 10-2 with added spacers to make it 4", a 10-4 and a 20 pounder. The spout will leak, use a screwdriver in the slot on the plunger to twist a few time and the leak will stop.
Melt rough lead in another pot for clean ingots then melt the ingots in the production pot.

Thanks guys. I've used an old one before so I'm familiar with the screwdriver thing. Surprised they haven't fixed that. It looks like the Lee 20 lb is only $66 shipped so I would probably get that one instead. It doesn't have the leaking issues?

I have the 20lb and it leaks too. I just keep the bottom of a mountain dew can down there to catch it. It is not much of a leak and I can usually just tap the spout arm to get it to stop. I just touch the little dribble hanging from the spout to the side of the mold before I pour so it does not go in the mold. I do like the 20lb though as when pouring striper jigs or shotgun slugs I can use a whole pot pretty quick. Like was said I use a separate pot for cleaning my lead and making ingots so only clean lead goes in the bottom pour pot.

My RCBS is 10 years old and going strong. I highly recommend it.

What they said .We use the hot pot 2 melting pot for our lead makes things a whole lot easier and is better for pouring spinnerbaits and poney/horse heads.Real handy!!

I have 10 and 20 lb pots.......the 20 works better and don't have to load with lead as often. They all leak.......Coil just went out of 20 lb pot today but hope to have a replacement before Christmas........will use the 10 lb pot for orders this week.
