Depending on the hooks you prefer I can pour 100 jig heads for about $3 and that is at retail: hooks at $2 per 100 from captain hooks and lead at $1 a pound. For better quality hooks it can range from $10/100 to $65/100 or more. I fish steelhead and salmon mostly so my jigs cost more for heavier, stronger hooks. Most of the time I find lead for cheaper than that and if you look hard enough it can often be found for free. Wholesale prices drop the cost even further.

It really boils down to how many do you plan on making and how many do you need but Most important, how much do you really want to do it. I bought plastic molding stuff last year and I knew I would never sell them and I will likely never make enough that I would have saved any real money. The reason I did: I wanted to and I could not find any other way to get what I wanted, in the colors I wanted to make what I wanted the way I envisioned making them. For me there was no other reason.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

I have not bought any molds yet but I do plan to do so. I will most likely start just making sinkers at first and move up from there. But the main reason I can see for making your own jigs or plastic baits is that a lot of the time you are not going to find things the way you think they should be colored.

To make a living selling jigs? It could be done but you will have to sell 1000's each week in a market that is covered with other tyers trying to sell their product. If you plan tying all the jigs by yourself and keep turning out a jig that will hold up, then no you couldn't make a living only selling jigs unless you need very little to live on.

I tie jigs and flies because I love the hobby, I sell a few jigs to help cover the cost of my habit. It still doesn't cover the cost of my hobby, not even close.

There are a lot of guys that pour on this site that can make you anything you want for a very good price. It gets expensive getting into pouring when you add it all up. If you do get into it you have a ton of knowledge right here. Some of the best guys in the world right here at your finger tips. Don't be afraid to ask any question. Also suggest to do a search on this site for a lot of info. I have been pouring jigs for awhile because I can get the hook and head just like I want it. Be careful with the lead. It is a toxic substance and hot!

I'll be putting up some molds for sell when I get around to making handles for them and posting pictures of finished products.

I believe that everyone has covered anything I could say. I have the pot and a dozen or so molds and I won't tell what I have paid for a hook order, but the first order was 7000 hooks. Still have many. Selling gets into business licenses and taxes to be legal and that was more than I cared to fool with. I pour for myself and friends and have EXACTLY what I want every time I open my box. What it has cut down on is the stuff that sits around in my box before heading for the trash or give away pile. I make heads and jigs for so little that it's hard to get away from me without a few in your hand.
