I checked the lake yesterday, it has opened up a good bit in three days. The lake is starting to get alot of different areas opening up. With the warm temps, rain and the wind this week, hopefully next weekend you could fish

How long after the Ice is off do the walleye start cruising the banks?

I know guys hit the shallows for spawing walleyes in April. Bee told usually by May the shore fishing for walleye is done.

I've seen guys fish it at this time of the year. As soon as there is open water somewhere on the lake there will be someone fishing it. The water temp is still in the mid 30's. I found that anything over 40 degrees and it's time for the eyes on the shorelines. The fish can be caught well into May and some years in June. Just have to be at the right spot. With rain coming the next 5 days and temps in the 60's the shore fishing should start to pick up this weekend coming up or next. It doesn't take long to warm the shallows with a big influx of warm rain. Fish the side of the lake where the wind has been blowing towards for a couple of days and you will find warmer water. The warm water will pile up on one side of the lake. I've seen where the water temps are 4-7 degrees different from one side to another. start at the upper end of the lake first and work your way down the lake as the spring progresses. Since the deep water is at the lower end of the lake it's the last to warm up.

I think that the boat ramp is a little steep there. I am sure that the eyes are in the shallows now. I have caught good numbers of eyes in the shallows each year at the lake associations crappie tournament during the first week of may.

With the amount of ice and this cool weather I would say the eyes will be 2 weeks later this year than last year. The weather just hasn't been that great to warm the water for the on shore migration. Sure someone is catching a few but the big push is a ways off. Same for the crappies..

I went out yesterday to run the bugs out of the motor and do some fishing. The weather was beautiful, 60's and pretty calm, but all we caught was a few small perch. The water temp at the surface was 48 on the main lake and on the west side near shore it was 50.

Stopped by the lake this morning before heading to the boat store. Water level seems to be a little high. Only saw 2 boats at the Jamestown end.
