well when the fish are hitting they work but other then a feeding frenzy i havent had much luck on the maggots at all.
anyone doing good with these? i tried them a few times now and cant give them away. even setting a fresh one into a ball of minnows didnt get a good response. they barely cared at all. im kinda feeling ripped off.

had no luck with the maggots
Last summer I had great time catching blue gills with gulp maggots on a very small hook and slip shot settling down onto weed beds. Tasty as crappie if I must say so myself.
the berkley power wigglers work great,, they look just like a waxworm and the fish love them, at least around here they do. they are one of our number one baits for gills and specks. have tried the maggots in the jar and do not do well with those at all compared to the power wigglers in the resealable bag. we rig two of them on a 1/64 oz chartreuse jig, usually with no bobber. if that does not work the eagle claw nitro trailers work amazingly. kind of funny though because the crappies around here are not real fond of worms but when you put about one half of the nitro trailer on a 1/64 oz orange jig and real it fairly slow they have a hard time passing it up.. this is our number one rig this year. when it is coming through the water it actually looks like a minnow, which is why i think the specks really like it . we have tried using the whole nitro trailer but they seem to not want it or they will short strike the end of it
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D
I have both the maggots in pink & white and the earthworms from Berkley. They both produce pan fish and small bass on a regular basis. Small hooks ( #18-#20 ) under a light float. I have also used the worms with the "wiggle rig" set up and have had some good catches.
I like the convenience of the artificial baits, but would really like to have a bunch of real maggots. No better bait for pan fish & trout. Just not easy to gather, grow or buy. Can be done, but Berkley has done a good job with their "powerbait" versions.
Berkley Power worm
real maggots

thanks for the info. i'll keep an eye out for those other artificials.
as far as eating bluegills, yeah they taste excellent! just lately ive had a hard time getting enough to keep.
Thanks for the post on the power wigglers.
I read this post the other day and ordered some from Bass Pro Shops. I fished them with a hook only and a cork.
This is an excellent bait, The fish love it and it is clean, easy to store and best of all..It catches fish!!
