Default Weekly Meetup/ UL PB !

This week we decided to try somewhere different so we met up at local county water reservoir about an hour from my house .
This particular lake has a couple shaded banks , which with this heat lately , was welcomed .
I took six rods including two Tenkara rods , but 99% of my fishing was with one rod , a St Croix 5’6 Premier ULF paired with a Daiwa Fuego LT 1000d , spooled with 6# dark green Daiwa J-Braid X8 and a 4# Floroclear leader .
Actually 99% of my fishing was with one lure , a gold bladed micro spinner .
If it works why change .
I was busy catching small bluegills and enjoying the bend in the rod , when I made a cast directly out from me and something grabbed my little spinner and within seconds the fish had pulled off about 30-40 yards of line , with drag screaming and then came out of the water , giving us a good look at the size of it .
My first thought was is my little rod was going to handle this fish ? Then I remembered the hook on the little spinner was a tiny size 14 !
It was going to take a lot of luck to land this one .
I carefully worked the bass with a little give and take for several minutes and finally after several runs and about five jumps I started to gain on the fish .
I knew the closer I worked it in , my chances of landing actually went down . Too many things can go wrong .
I got in turned toward the bank and walked backward a few steps pulling its big head upon the edge of the bank . Quickly taking up the line as I knelt down and got a thumb in its mouth .
As I lifted it up it kicked a few times and it was all I could do to hang onto it .
    I couldn’t believe the weight .
Over eight pounds , I’m guessing.
My overall and ultralight personal best bass landed.
Oh yeah , I also caught twenty four small bluegills and my buddy caught twenty four also .
The big bass being the winner between us .
    A catch I’ll remember!

The little spinner that I caught everything on today .
The clip is almost as big as the spinner .

That’s a great catch on the little stuff, very good job mister!!! Proof positive that you’ve got some skills. This fish will make you smile for quite some time. Jim and his PB a while back was also very good. You guys are making me look bad! LOL I’ll bet it got the heart rate up.

That's why we fish, you just never know what will bite next. Really nice bass on ultralight tackle, guess it was looking for a snack and that little spinner was the ticket.
