set side view to 40 ft and cruise the points and coves .
I have Lowrance HSD's with side scan, down scan, and a whole bunch of stuff I don't know how to work. Anyway, looking for help in using my side scan to locate brim beds. I am cross posting this in the electronics forum as well. Seems I am not getting a good enough return to see beds. Not sure what setting I need to adjust. Seems every time I screw with my units, I screw something up. I am not sure if its better to have all this high tech stuff and just go fishing. Suggestions, comments would be appreciated.

I set the contrast to about 80 and brightness to 100. I can see the beds well defined on Garmin Side scan. Some areas with hard bottom seem too bright and washed out but I pick up on structure and fish more with settings like this.

Nice picture of the beds.
Honestly, the default settings on my Humminbird work just fine with no tweaking. Maybe I turned up the brightness all the way (fishing in full sun most of the time), and bumped the contrast up a little. The Lowrance should be similar. I cruise the shore in about 10-12 feet of water with the range as short as I can get it and still "see" the bank. I looked yesterday, and range was set to 70 feet.
I rely on my Livescope in perspective mode to find and get on beds the most, though. It is very useful for that - in my opinion.

I have had no issues with my garmins. The first time I saw one and realized what it was I was amazed.
I have Humminbird Helix 9 and beds show up like the image above, and even better. Pretty amazing, actually. So, it's worth getting it tweaked to the right settings! Super easy to find all the bream one can want to catch! Down here, last year, they bedded May 10 to July 7 and I caught them every day I went except I think I had one bad day. And I use small plastic baits, Trout Magnet and Trout Slayer, for instance. Don't even need live bait.

I have never been much of a bedding fish fisherman, but I am planning a couple of bluegill/bream/crappie trips in the very near future.
I have changed out all of my tightlining rigs for slip corks and casting rigs for better plying the shallow water while maintaining some distance.
