    Default New rod sliming.

USPS delivered my new addition this morning.
Ever since I fished my 7’ Daiwa Procyon the other day , I started thinking about adding another two piece long rod to the arsenal.
I’d read a few good reviews and watched a video on the 13 Fishing Defy Silver rod .
It’s an inexpensive rod but seemed to be put together with some nice components.
I paid a little over $50 delivered for the two piece 7’ ultralight fast rod .
I paired it with one of my newer Daiwa Legalis LT 1000’s , and with the blue accent wraps on the rod , they look like they were made to be a combo. Reel was loaded with two pound test P-line.
I couldn’t get to the pond today until after lunch , by then most of the shade was gone around the pond and this old man can’t take the heat very long .
I fished from just before 2 until 3 , a hair over an hour .
Started off using a gold bladed number 0 jig spinner with a black 1/32 jig and Bobby garland IB Slab Hunter in coppernose color .
In my hurry to get to the pond, I forgot my zoom marker pen .
After about ten minutes of casting , I hooked up on something that felt nice but came unhooked after a couple of nice runs .
I went through a dry spell after that and decided to switch over to a bigger number 1 silver bladed jig spinner with the same jig .
On about the fifth cast I hooked up and a nice fight began . The fish stayed down so I didn’t think it was a bass . Once I finally wore it down enough to slide up the bank , I saw it was a nice redear . Probably my best so far this year .
Then the bites dried up again until I switched to just the 1/32 jig , BG combo .
I wanted to see how this new rod would cast just a light jig/plastic . It actually cast the jig better than the jig spinner combo . The rod recovered quicker and the casts were just as far if not farther .
To top it off I hooked into a nice bluegill that put a sweet bend in the Defy Silver rod .
I like this combo . It’ll definitely be going into the rotation. It’s a keeper .
The rod is very sensitive, I could feel no only little taps and strikes , but could feel when going though a patch of algae.

Nice looking rod and reel, I have one of the new Legalis reels and they are nice, yours looks sharp with the new rod. Looks like you did a good job breaking the ice with it !

Nice rod and a good report while I was slaving away behind the wheel all day. Sorry, did I sound jealous? Nice new rig.
