Fine day of mixed bag fishing. Some great scenery as well. Congrats
I got to go this morning about 7:30. Had to sleep some and didn’t want to be out after the wind picked up. And it did pick up. I tied on one of Kevins bugs that he gave me yesterday, one of the green ones. They worked great and flared when the retrieve was stopped for a second. I pitched em in all the usual places that make up “ my office” and found the bite slow again. I made sure my phone was charged this time so I have some pics. Didn’t load the boat or catch any keepers but stayed just busy enough. The first fish hit so soft that I wasn’t sure I hadn’t ticked a branch. He was about 7” and fought like he was bigger but those copperheads are like that. No pic of this one as the pic came out as a 1 second video, operator’s error. Next fish hit like a smack on the rod and he tried to take away my rod, you already know what he was. Nothing but large attitude in a small body. First redbreast in a while.
Starting to color up for their spawn, this showed me I was a little bit early yet. I’ll be checking in a bit more often now that I know. Moved down the bank some and pitched next to a canal that feeds where I was fishing and saw the water wiggle the tiniest bit when the jig hit the water. I lifted the rod tip and the rod doubled up. I kept the pressure on and he moved a little. Probably didn’t know he was hooked til then. Got a couple of turns on the reel and he cleared the water, and my heart rate went up a bunch. Thankfully he came to open water and I was able to let him fight some while I dug around for the net. Biggest that I can remember for a while now.
And Kevin’s little bug neatly tucked in the corner of his mouth. They did a fine job today.
All the while up to now, three owls had been going at it, making sounds way outside the normal hoots we usually hear. Songbirds we’re doing their thing, and the limpkins loud, shrill tone went on long enough I was wishing for some quiet. No pigs or deer this trip but the squirrels were making a bunch of racket and doin squirrel stuff. I’d been out about an hour so far and the wind hadn’t picked up yet. I was liking this. some traffic made me skip to where I usually finish my day and found a few more fish and had a few pull off before I got to meet em.
Now ten o’clock, I called my Queen and asked her to breakfast and headed home to get her. Not a long trip but all things considered I was pleased. No fish to clean, a big bass to make me smile, and most of my day still to go. Hope y’all get out soon, maybe I’ll see ya. Til then……Skeet.

It was 53* when I left the house. A virtual heatwave for some of y’all but a bit chilly for this fat boy. 68* when I pulled and headed home. I showed a little background this time for those of you that haven’t warmed up yet.

That last red-breasted is a beauty with all fins flared up. Thanks!
