Thread: Chasing Gill at our Town pond

What’s up with the wind lately. Swirling and gusty today . I had to hide behind the bridge again .
Getting down into the 40’s last night didn’t help the bite either.
Took my replacement 5’4” SC Trout Series paired with a Daiwa Legalis LT 1000 , spooled with SOS 2# .
I tried a 1/80 woolybooger jig on the drop shot without a nibble . Switched to a chartreuse variegated spider and on the third cast caught a decent redear but I tried to hold him with the fly to take a picture and before I could get my phone out , it flipped off , one flop on the bank , and right back into the pond .
Ten minutes later I caught a small LM bass with a good bit of line out and it wrapped me twice on the bridge posts and the SOS held up to let me drag him out .
Checked the line , and definitely had to retie .
Then hit a dry spell . Tried a couple of lures including a Bitsy minnow , but no luck until I went back with the drop shot with a yellow/orange spider and caught my third fish of the trip.
Three fish in about a 1 1/2 hours fishing. Beats a skunk .

Despite of the threat of high winds , the sun came out from behind the clouds around five today and I told my wife , I’d see her in a little while.
When I first got there the wind was blowing, but didn’t seem that bad around the bridge .
I had rigged up a double spider rig with an adjustable small weighted float .
I fish the jig and float on both sides of the bridge without any takers .
I had a little trouble casting , as it seemed the wind would gust just about the time I cut loose with a cast and there was no telling where it would land .
I switched over to a single spider drop shot rig and walked to the other side of the pond where it turned out , the wind was worse .
But it didn’t stop me from catching a small gill and a little redear .
With about twenty minutes left , I went back to the back side of the bridge where if I kept my casts low , I could cast ok , most of the time . One of my cast got a little high and wind blew it completely over the bridge .
I was able to catch my two bigger fish in that spot , a medium size colorful redear and a colorful nice bluegill .
Combo was my 5’4” SC Panfish paired with a Daiwa Legalis LT 1000 , spooled with 4# P-line .
I’m glad I went . The wind is supposed to be worse tomorrow, but if it’s sunny, I still might give it a try .

That’s a great combo, gill. The Legalis 1000 has become my favorite.

Pretty redears. I was ready to go but had to recharge this morning so I’m in coffee mode. Lots of little things to do too, I’ll be better off in the morning. Hopefully I can find as manny fish as you have lately. Sure beats sitting home.
