The last couple of days in southern Nevada, powerful, though short storm had caused havocs for road workers and clean up crew due to flash flood clogging up drainage and dispersing desert scapes all over the roads. This evening I saw a small window of opportunity to sneak out and visit one of my least favorite local ponds…..and it’s not the fish, that is unless you are like me who now more interested in UL and panfish than the big catfish, LM bass, and carps. I’m not complaining in fact I should be thankful that in there a healthy bluegill population, it’s just that common carp population is even healthier, so targeting bluegill only requires more effort than I like, lol. It’s unnerving when hundreds of carps feeding and all I saw was a few hints of green dotting and zigzagging beneath the surface. Today I think I may have found a solution: drop-shotting flies very close to the surface, since carps mostly feed on or near floor. Where are those big post spawning brutes? 2 hours: 25 bluegills(most 4 inches), 4 green sunfish, and 3 carps. Enjoy the pictures!

Proud Member of Team Geezer!
Always good to have an opportunity to go catch a few
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
Very nice and thanks for the share. I remember those flash rains and floods when I lived in Tucson. A raging gulch and an hour later the desert. The SW is surely an interesting place.

A very good bank trip out. I would take some action like that with a big smile.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Pretty fish.

Glad you got the opportunity to get out and catch a few. I remember the flash floods, and gully washers all to well. Most of my growing years following dads career in the Marines was in the desert south west. Miss it sometimes. Glad to see you got a few.

Thanks all for the kind words! About them carps, not that it's not fun catching them, the Europeans are nuts about them and I do go after them from time to time. Like many members here know that the bigger ones are shy if not down right skettish (my PB is about 1 lb), but they require I change lure and tactic and sometimes i'm just too lazy...lol. The larger ones love bread dough that means trip hook sometimes just to keep it intact for any length of time, but man once hooked they can be a force to be reckoned with, especially with 2 lb SOS. The little ones are often welcome than not and they don't mind flies or piece of earth worm now and then.
BobC and jamesdean yes these so called torrential rain only last minutes to hour max, a good thing believe me, any longer it be devastating. What happened in Germany was very unfortunate and I can only imagine what the floods here will be like if we get week long rain during our summer monsoon season.
