The ponds are actually retention ponds used to control storm water runoff during heavy rain periods.
Every large development is required to have them, including shopping centers etc.
Water quality is as a rule monitored and maintained by professionals same as the public area landscaping is.
Some of the developers get a bit creative by advertising water front lots, which they actually are.
Not uncommon for gators to find their way into those ponds and munch on the pets of the homeowners, or even the homeowner if not carefull.
    But they soon become eliminated.
Some are fenced in and off limits to anglers, but you can often see lots of beds as you drive past some of them if your tuned in.
Just one of the many good opportunities Florida has to offer shore bound anglers.

I forgot what YouTube video it was I saw months ago 2 friends were targeting “snakeheads”-an invasive Asian species of very aggressive predator fish, after a major storms in Florida flooding most neighborhood streets therefore connecting various lakes and habitats. When water receded, they found these fishes in their local community ponds and golf course ponds as well. So I’m not surprised alligators and what not would also be found after these floods happened.
