Default does color of float matter?

I know there is a thread discussing peoples preference, but whats everyone take on bigger panfish striking bait under a bright colored bobber? does it matter? I notice the bottoms of alot of floats are black, is this to not alarm weary fish? whats your thoughts?

...unless the water is very clear and you're fishing very shallow, it doesn't matter one bit what your bobber looks like...I once saw a little girl pull in a 2-lb shellcracker on a "Spongebob Squarepants" plastic bobber...seriously, though, your bobber needs to present as little resistance as possible when the fish takes the bait...that's why I prefer torpedo-shaped floats...steer away from the round plastic floats or other "doo-dads" like lighted bobbers...that kinda stuff is designed to catch fishermen, not fish...lol...

A brightly colored float should not affect bites unless your hook is very close to the float. Fly fishermen use very bright fly lines in very clear water for spooky trout. But they put a clear leader between the fly line and the fly to keep the trout from noticing the fly line.

There is another consideration in float colors, though. That's visibility to you, not the fish. I use waggler-type floats. Most of the float is beneath the surface of the water, so that portion is either some drab color or clear plastic, so as not to alarm the fish.

For the tip of the float, I like either orange or black. Most of the time, I use orange. It's very easy to see in darker colored water. However, if there are no shadows on the water, the water can appear light gray or even white. In that case, a black-tipped float is easier to see than an orange or yellow-tipped one.

I agree with deathb4disco...the color doesn't much matter to fish in my opinion , but i have tried several colors and like the florescent yellow or orange tip for MY visibility - especially when making long casts so as to not spook the fish too much.

I would agree with the other guys- I have never noticed a float make a bit of difference regarding color...

For shallow bluegill, try a small Orange float, 3 ft. infront of a floating spider. It gets their attention.

Personally, I think the brighter colored floats help to attract the fish closer to the bait. I think they see the bright color and come to check it out to see what it is and then they run into the bait. Just my oppinion for bream fishing, i think crappie is just the opposite.

I have caught bream using a popping cork. Color don't matter. If you think it is, try using thills. CF
